Short Bio

I left my small home town in Missouri at the age of seventeen.  With stars in my eyes and a guitar on my back I hitch-hiked to California where I was able to meet and learn from some of the popular musicians of the early 70’s. In Los Angeles, I joined the American Federation of Musicians Union as a bass guitar player. After getting my chops up to speed, I had the fortunate opportunity to play as a supporting act with my band Calabassas with such groups as:

The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
POCO
Crosby, Stills and Nash
The Drifters
Buddy Miles
Johnny Rivers
Mary Wells
Silent Messenger

I made my first, Gary Young produced, album for Windi Records in Los Angeles in 1974. This recording led to extensive studio session work in California and New York.

I am also a former member of the Grammy Award winning group, The New Christy Minstrels.

In between performing and recording I hit the streets as a Producer and Publishing Assistant with:

Sundaze Publishing
Windi Publishing
Peer-Southern Publishing
Brown-Eyed Lady Publishing
Barry White Music

But, the thrill of on-stage performance in front of an enthusiastic crowd, is, and always has been my passion.  I work hard at my craft and strive to improve every aspect of my performances.  You can’t say we are a power group, a folk group, or a gospel group.  Whether I am playing with my group or playing solo; I weave an interesting mixture of different genres to keep my audience entertained.  It doesn’t mater if the crowd is 50 or 50,000, they are going to get the same level of commitment.

Rick’s Hill’s Shadows and Dreams will entrance you. His voice immediately grabs your attention, then the lyrics of the songs he wrote will beg you to stop and listen. His songs’ lyrics in The Apple Song to I’m Stronger Down Here will stay with you. Rick’s music is will leave you wanting more.

“Shadows and dreams” is such an excellent album. What a voice!!! I highly recommend it. To me it reminds me of Johnny Cash and Gram Parsons if you could mix the two. Listen to it with some headphones and you could hear how well it is mixed, very clean!

Rick and Joanne:

Thank you so much for the truly wonderful songs you write and sing glorifying our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The scriptural approach you take with your songs no doubt ministers to people as we go through good times and difficult times. I especially enjoy the songs that come from personal trials in life that help provide hope for all of us.

My Dad used to say that life gets tough out there. He was right. Music can touch and heal the soul sometimes better than anything else. Your music definitely reaches out and touches people where they live. Without hope, we really have nothing, and your music definitely helps lift our spirits toward a closer relationship with God.
